Addiction Dog Food

Kirby eats dehydrated dog food which has a very thick oatmeal texture- it's healthy, wholesome food with human grade ingredients I approve.  When we kept our first foster I was asked tonot feed them the same food since it was hard to get them to eat the commercialkibble when they were transported to their forever homes.  So I feed our fosters a dry commercial kibblewhich  Kirby is always trying toeat.

Knowing how much Kirby loves the crunchy texture of kibble I have been searching for some time for a healthy, safe kibble with no success.  Every brand so far has had less than desirable ingredients listed.  Finally, flipping through my latest Modern Dog Magazine I came across an advertisement for Addiction Dog Food.  Wholesome ingredients air dried into a dry kibble and endorsed by Whole Dog Journalwho has recognized Addiction as Approved Dry Dog Foods for 2009, 2010, and 2011. That's impressive.

Kirby can be rather picky so I sent an email to the company and was elated when within hours I received an email back offering to send samples for Kirby to try.  A week later a large package was delivered containing nine generous sized samples of five different flavors. 

I believe in feeding Kirby a varied diet to ensure he enjoyshis meals and gets all of the protein, vitamins and minerals his bodyneeds.  This means he gets differentflavors of dehydrated meals and homemade meals each week.  Maybe because he has always eaten this way henever gets an upset stomach.

I really couldn't do a day by day recap since I do varietymeals.  Kirby ate these meals over athree week period so I decided to just list each kibble flavor noting Kirby'sreaction and the ingredients for each.

Le Lamb Entree Kibble

He very much enjoyed this meal each time so it is on my listto order.

Salmon Bleu Kibble

Kirby loves fish flavors so this one was a big hit.  Every time he ate all of it as quickly aspossible.

Viva La Venison Kibble

I have never fed Kirby venison which is a shame since wehave a lot of hunters here.  However,that will change since he very much enjoyed these meals.

Wild Kangaroo & Apples Kibble

Kirby refused to eat this kibble.  Apparently kangaroo is an acquiredtaste.  I tried several times and endedup feeding him something else.  I did mixa little in his dehydrated meals which he ate. Still, I won't be ordering this one even though I had high hopes sinceKirbs can get borderline chunky.

FYI - Wild kangaroo containing only 2% fat, wild kangaroomeat is prized as a low fat, high quality meat, free from antibiotics andhormones. Wild Kangaroo contains up to 5 times the amount of CLA than other redmeats. CLA has been shown to support many body functions important to overallhealth and fitness. Also shown to inhibit obesity, CLA is great news for dogowners who want to manage their pet抯 weight and cardiovascular health.

Kirby loves these dry kibbles and I'm very happy with theingredients so I ordered a 4 lb. bag of the Salmon Blue Entree kibble.  I thought I would start with that since Kirbsloves fish.  Would you believe he lovescrab legs and shrimp?  Really!

Kirby enjoys dehydrated meals from honest Kitchen and this was no exception.  He heartily chowed it down

Dehydrated Steakhouse Beef & Zucchini Entree 
Kirby loves a hamburger so this was a hit.  I have previously purchased the Honest Kitchen Verve which is made with beef thinking he would love it but ended up having to add extra meat to entice him to eat it.  I didn't have to add anything to this one.

Dehydrated Perfect Summer Brushtail
Another acquired taste must be brushtail since Kirby also refused this one every time.  I also mixed a little in his dehydrated meals which he then refused to eat.  So brushtail is a definite no for Kirbs.

FYI - Wild Brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula), is a marsupial found in large numbers in New Zealand, containing the highest levels of Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Acids of any red meat. Brushtail is not native to New Zealand and eats only the best berries and foliage, destroying forests and wildlife. Unlike farmed animals, Wild Brushtail is free from antibiotics and artificial hormones. By feeding this food, you are not only helping to conserve New Zealand's plant and animal life but are also providing your pet with a nutritionally superior meal that promotes wellness and vitality.

There are some other kibble and dehydrated flavors along with canned dinners and treats I may try in the future.  I don't know if these would be cost prohibitive for a large dog but it fits my budget since Kirby eats a cup or less daily.  Overall, Kirby and I give Addiction pet food 5 wags and 4 paws up!
