Cheese Nips Kinda
/Cheese Nips Kinda
I love to eat cheese nips, a task Kirby quite enjoys helping me with. They probably aren't the healthiest thing for a dog to eat so I thought I would try to make some. I think I can improve on this recipe but since they did turn out pretty good I figured I would share them.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup white whole wheat flour*
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp brewer's yeast
- 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk**
Preparation Instructions:
1. In large bowl mix flour and cheese together.
2. Add butter and garlic powder.
3. Slowly add milk while mixing until you have a stiff dough. I used my Kitchenaid Mixer so if you don't have one then knead the dough a few times.
4. Roll out as thin as possible on parchment paper.
5. Slice small squares using a pizza cutter.
6. Carefully move the dough and parchment paper to a baking sheet.
7. Bake at 300 degrees for 15 minutes then turn over and bake another 10 minutes until crispy brown on both sides.
8. Turn off oven and leave for about an hour with the oven door slightly ajar.
These can be stored in an airtight container for a week or in the refrigerator for several weeks.
* You can use any flour. I chose the white whole wheat flour to allow the cheese to give it a more yellow color.
** I used evaporated milk because I was out of regular milk and didn't have time to run to the store. I think using regular milk would be even better.
Next time I'm going to try a sharp cheddar cheese.
