Cheeseburgers
/I love a cheeseburger! My favorite go to recipe is one pound hamburg, one egg, a package of Lipton Onion Soup, and some worcestershire sauce. Onions are toxic for dogs and I couldn't prove to myself that worcestershire was safe so this is my "dog version" for a cheeseburger treat.
I rarely use whole wheat flour in Kirby's treats but I was going for an all American real cheeseburger and who eats a burger with a bun made from rice, oats, or coconut flour? Kirby loves meat so I already knew these would be a tasty hit. Watching him wait by the oven as they baked guaranteed they were nose approved.

Ingredients:
- 1/2 lb (1 1/2 cups) ground beef
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup beef broth*
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses
Instructions:
- Allow cheddar cheese to warm to room temperature.
- Cook and drain the ground beef. Let cool.
- In a large bowl combine all ingredients until thoroughly mixed.
- Knead the dough a few times to bind it and then roll out on a floured surface 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with the cutter of your choice. I used a small biscuit cutter since I was going for the cheeseburger look.
- Place on parchment paper lined baking sheets. They won't rise so they can be placed close together. Prick the centers of each treat with a fork to help cook since they are thick.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Turn over and cook another 15 minutes. Turn off oven and leave in for about an hour.
* Be sure to use a safe dog friendly broth, ie. no onions, paprika, etc. Either make your own or read the ingredients if purchasing from a store. Chicken stock or plain water will work.
